Who's a good little 2/2? You are! Oh yes you are!
and I’m back to the sci-fi token project!
I wanted to get this project done in time for minicomi (july 8th) but now I’m starting to see how unrealistic that is.
there is a part of me that wants to grind this project to conclusion, but at the same time, having something with no concrete deadline that I can kind of work on when I don’t feel inspired to do anything else is really nice
I did this wolf this morning, I was fighting with the sketch yesterday but managed to get it nailed down today, I.. don’t feel super confident with this one, I feel like he kind of gets lost in the background and that the whole thing is kind of samey in terms of color.
the concept was that radioactive waste was filtering into the forests and warping the trees and causing them to have flourescent leaves, I wanted to try something that still felt sci-fi but wasn’t set in a city. But I’m not super sure the idea translated well.
I mean, not every picture is going to be a hit I guess. I think this one could’ve benefited from some more colors but for now I guess we’ll leave it where it is.
In the future I really want to work more on my realism, while a lot of the details are nice I still feel like everything I do has a very cartoonish quality to it, and I’m struggling on how to eliminate that.
well. we will keep working and I can’t not improve, right?
in other news I am also changing my last name. To Vyseri. The word doesn't mean anything, the banal explanation is, I wanted something that was high fantasy sounding, and looked aesthetically pleasing on a page (as I was designing a business card) however it had to be unusual enough that I could always get the username [TobiasVyseri] on any medium (something that Tobias Durose hasn't been able to do for me) I wanted to stay away from anything that had any previous attachments, as I am forging my own name and future and don't want to be held back by pre-determined expectations tethered to a name. I knew I wanted something that sounded foreign, and kind of "bad guys"; I favor names that feature V, Y and S as prominent sounds, (ie. Vanek, Visvana, Sevethe, Valeth) It also needed to sound kind of archaic, I drew a lot from Latin sounds.
The next paragraph is a really fruity and poetic explanation of how I feel about sounds and names, so skip over it if it's not your fancy.
My initial last name, when spoken aloud, kind of flopped on the ground like a dead marmot. Du-Rose two hard syllables that fight with each other audibly. that and when spoken with my first name (Tobias Durose) the entire expression seemed to hit the ground hard, and die there. there was no ring to the name, no sibilant syllables, no lilting cadence that made it appealing to say. Tobias Vyseri by contrast ends on a high note, as if the entire expression is floating into the sky, both words have the same number of syllables and are equivalent, sharing the audible space evenly, the flow from the soft "ias" suffix bleeds into the thin and unobtrusive V sound to give the entire expression a cursive melody. I also enjoy the sound of Vyseri, it's first half shares the same harmonic oratory space as darker, more colored words, such as Vice, Viscera, Viper and Vile however the second half brings light, hinting at seraph and aerie, letting us start in hell and end up in heaven. The word itself is like a soft blade, sliding from one's tongue gracefully, delicately allowing the entire phrase to lazily drift like a feather.
my social media stuff is going to be a bit in disarray for a little while as I switch everything over to the new aesthetic, so some links might work, some might not, some might just kind of look really bad.
I apologize in advance.

alright in the post-con haze of the retro gaming expo we’re getting back to work on these tokens! here is the goblin token.
goblins are actually pretty tough for me, the only goblin aesthetic I’ve ever really liked is the pathfinder goblins, which have this strangely charming totally evil-but-still-cute thing going on.
I wanted to draw off of that for this one, which is where the derpy hat comes from.
the other theme was “scavenger” even in sci fi goblins are kind of the bottom of the food chain, and only have what they can loot. which is why he has this “patched together” kind of look, or is supposed to anyways. also duct tape. that was very important.
and that giant duracell battery. I tried a few different things but nothing really came across as “giant battery” so I just caved and drew a duracell.
also in other news, Critical Role got ahold of one my decks of many things and the Tiny Business has been hectic for the past week, also this is a shameless advertisement that if you were looking for one and were not aware I was the artist, well, I am, and the item's in my etsy shop if you are so inclined :3
